The present invention relates to the field of polymer application, in particular to a polypeptide compound and the use thereof in the field of cosmetics. Disclosed in the present invention is a low-molecular-weight polypeptide compound with a structural formula of [?-glu]n-Aa, wherein n is 1-10, glu is glutamic acid, and Aa is selected from any one of glycine, alanine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, tryptophan, tyrosine, aspartic acid, asparagine, glutamic acid, lysine, glutamine, methionine, serine, threonine, cysteine, proline, histidine or arginine. In the structural formula, n is preferably 1-8. The polypeptide derivative has a molecular weight of 250-1500 Da. Tests show that the above-described polypeptide compound has an excellent moisturizing performance and a low molecular weight, which is beneficial for absorption and utilization by the skin, thereby reducing the risk of clogging pores and sweat gland openings.
